Ministers to consider fire safety rule changes after Rosepark blaze

0 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Jul 30, 2010 | by jasper hamill

MINISTERS will consider drawing up new fire safety rules designed to prevent a repeat of the Rosepark blaze tragedy that killed 14 people.

At the ongoing inquiry into the incident yesterday, a solicitor representing the Scottish Government said there were plans to look at implementing four recommendations contained in a report by Colin Todd, a fire and safety expert who has been investigating the tragedy.

The report calls for mandatory sprinkler systems in areas where vulnerable elderly people are living, encourages care homes to install advanced fire prevention systems and suggests new rules on how risk assessments are carried out.

Douglas Ross, representing Scottish ministers, said: “The Scottish Government is prepared to consider amendments on care home guidance.”

The Government will explore four parts of Todd’s report.

The fire safety expert called for special alarm systems to be fitted in care homes housing more than 10 people. These “addressable” alarms are able to measure data coming from sprinklers, fire alarms or smoke detectors across a building. This information is then displayed on a central screen.

It is suspected malfunctioning scanners may have hindered the Rosepark rescue effort by showing incorrect information and directing rescuers to the wrong part of the building.

Although he stopped short of saying addressable scanners could have prevented the tragedy, Todd said: “These could have been fitted in Rosepark for a ballpark figure of pound(s)20,000.”

This includes Paypal, credit

July 31st, 2010 No comments

This includes Paypal, credit card accounts, checking and savings accounts, trading accounts and others. Instead of clicking links, go directly to the websites with domains you already have bookmarked for the sites. Even if the email says, ?Someone has been added to your Paypal account?? or something similar, do NOT click on any links in these emails. More often than not, they are fraudulent emails sent to trick you into clicking their links and supplying your account access information so that they may enter and rob you.

- Do not click on any links inside emails from eBay, either. Many different fraudulent eBay emails float around out there on any given day. Some say, ?I bought an item from you but haven?t received it?? or ?I want to buy your item but can?t reach you?? etc. Most are like those above with Paypal and are attempts to get you to simply click on their false links so that they can capture your eBay account access information, steal your eBay identity and most often, sell merchandise in a fraudulent manner via your account. For example, they may sell top of the line computers in auctions using your identification. Yet after people pay, they will never receive anything for their money.

Since you have no idea of the new credit cards, the bad guys “spend” like there’s no tomorrow, safe in the knowledge that they’ll be long gone and you’ll only begin receiving credit card statements about 45 days later, due to ordinary billing cycles.

* Who’s Opposing The Credit Freeze Consumer Tool?

Amazingly, financial firms and the credit bureaus both lobby to block this key consumer anti-fraud and identity theft tool. Why? As always, business profit-seeking distorts the moral landscape. Here’s the commercial Catch 22: the credit bureaus make their money by analyzing credit and then selling those data to the financial institutions. Meanwhile the financial firms’ business model is based on “selling credit”, so the last thing they want to do is limit their revenue prospects.

Bottom Line.

Congress along with the credit bureaus and financial firms collude to eliminate a key consumer-controlled anti fraud tool.

Children are not instinctively gentle

July 29th, 2010 No comments

Children are not instinctively gentle with animals. Interactive play between parent and child, using stuffed dogs as props, can be a fun way to introduce them to the idea that a pet should be handled with gentle loving care.
At this stage, objects still get mouthed, so stuffed dogs should still have short pile fabric.

2 to 3 years

=========

Finally, you can graduate to nice, furry stuffed dogs! The long pile isn’t considered a hazard–mainly because children age 2 to 3 no longer place everything in their mouths.* Kids this age have developed good hand coordination and like to put it to work with arts and crafts and simple puzzles. Plain stuffed dogs make use of a creative imagination. You might also consider a doggie hand or finger puppet. These work the mind as well as hands and fingers!

*No more thumbs or pacifiers at this age!! It will affect your child’s oral and dental development.

3 to 6 years

=========

After age three, make-believe is a favorite pastime and children interact with each other, using toys as props. It’s common at this age to develop strong attachments to favorite toys, and express feelings towards a particular doll, teddy bear, or stuffed dog.

He did not wish to understand, if

July 29th, 2010 No comments

He did not wish to understand, if so he?d have to adjust to it, and he really didn?t have the time; there was not such thing as adjusting to new days, or one to another, there would not be another. He would be a cold corpse by morning.

He refocused, as he started spitting water from his mouth, as if it was blood coming out of his lungs: aimlessly focusing on his environment: ??it so happens to be, I?m tired, even lazy at this moment,? bats were in the air, he saw them. He could hardly breath, ??this damn storm,? he cursed, adding, ??please Lord let my daughter be safe, if I don?t make it, please let her be safe, I don?t mind dying, she?s too young, take me instead.? It wasn?t a call of piety, or pity, just a request from the vaults of his mind, his cold waterlogged mind.

It?s convenient to say

July 29th, 2010 No comments

It?s convenient to say that everything is fine if you don?t know where you?re going. You can always say that any destination you arrive at is OK.

The second reason I most often hear from people, is that they do have goals, they just keep them in their head. Most people believe in the fewest motions possible to get things done.

A person who thinks this way, does not have goals. They have wishes, desires, hopes, and dreams. Dreams come to all of us as we go about our daily business. Wishes drift in and out of our conscious thoughts. We think of new interests we?d like to pursue, changes we?d like to make, and great things we?d like to achieve, someday. We?re pretty sure we have the ability, and fully intend to do all those things sometime in the future.

The ludicrous nature of this way of thinking is that unless those vague intentions are translated into specific goals, they will drift into that never-never land called ?Might Have Been,? and they will take your life with them.

Unfortunately, this is precisely the way most people conduct their lives.

When I noticed

July 29th, 2010 No comments

When I noticed that this working well I decided to do something on a larger scale and printed off hundreds of leaflets and did a letter drop, I paid my nephew and his friends some money to deliver them to all the houses around them. This worked a treat and I continue to do this everytime I have something else to advertise.

Once I was receiving capital I then decided to advertise in newspapers, local at first as national can be costly. My small simple advertisement was now going to be seen by so many people.

I would definitely advise trying out some of these advertising ideas and once you get started you think of more and more.

Good luck to you all in your business.

They fear silence, because

July 29th, 2010 No comments

They fear silence, because something unexpected might sneak up on them.

And of course, this is natural, especially if we?re living an inauthentic life or one that is jam packed with superficialities. When reflexive routines stop, suddenly we?re confronted by nothing more than our inner voices.

Typically, these voices are dumb, if we?re not used to conversing with them. They recite trivialities, and cycle through the debris of our consciousness.

But when we’re graced with a suspension of the commonplace, this provides an opportunity to court our inner beings, as meditation practitioners know.

To be free of routine, beyond the reach of reinforcements, rewards and punishments, is incredibly refreshing.

We get a chance to ask interesting questions, such as ?What am I?? and ?What is meaningful?? and ?How do I want to feel?? and ?Where am I going in such a hurry??

By living through the fear of silence, of stasis, of nothingness, we earn an opportunity to put fear aside, and this is a stunning achievement.

Knowing this is possible, at first momentarily, and then for longer periods, is empowering.

Our cars, 401k plans, business and social importance are significant only inasmuch as they have helped us to arrive at that special moment, when our mud settles, and at last, we can see through it and into ourselves and the infinite.
